Martin Roscoe 2020 Launch Concert

Thursday, 7th May 2020 7.30pm.

Croston Theatre, Westholme School, Meins Rd, Blackburn, BB2 6QU

Martin Roscoe celebrates the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth with two contrasting sonatas to open tonight’s concert. Beginning with the gentle lyricism of Sonata no 10 in G major and followed by the sonata which it has been suggested encapsulated the composer’s true nature above all others – and which it is believed Beethoven himself considered his greatest – no 23, the Appassionata.

Music inspired by water in one way or another is the theme which runs through the remainder of this evening’s concert. From Janacek’s misty folk-inspired landscapes, through Debussy’s musings on reflections and the waves lapping the shore of his joyous isle, to Liszt’s lake – where we hear the sigh of the waves and cadence of oars – finally we even have St Francis walking on the waters!

Martin will also expand on our summer concerts and events – join us and him to hear firsthand his artistic choices of performers and programmes for RVIPW 2020 – and for a relaxing and sunny spring Launch concert.
