Winnie Su – Friday 12th July 2024, 12 noon

Australian born Winnie Su’s recent accolades include winning the RNCM Concerto Competition, Beethoven Competition, Williams- Howard Song Prize and Piano Duo Prize. Eager to diversify her roles as a pianist, Winnie pursues chamber and orchestral opportunities, and takes a keen interest in learning to tune and restore pianos. As a passionate educator, Winnie founded Musical Steps, an online platform to help remove barriers to access music education.

The Anne Landa Preludes were a commission in her memory, celebrating a woman who made an extraordinary and sustained contribution to the encouragement of young pianists in Australia. Each movement is designed to be evocative (notes will be provided!) and demands both virtuosic and subtle playing. Winnie then moves us into more familiar territory with one of Beethoven’s late sonatas which is a rollercoaster through joy, pain and peace, concluding with Chopin firmly cementing his romantic style in his last piano sonata.

This concert will be followed by a Masterclass at 2pm.
